Enzo Maresca shares his only criticism of Noni Madueke's performance against Wolves

Enzo Maresca praised Noni Madueke for his brilliant hat-trick performance in Chelsea's dominant 6-2 victory over Wolves. However, the coach also emphasized that the talented winger still has potential for further development and growth.

The England Under-21 international began the day caught up in the midst of a social media storm after he inadvertently posted a comment that infuriated the Wolves fans.

Molineux afforded Madueke a hostile reception, but he silenced the home faithful with a three-goal display that will live long in the memory.

Despite his devastating display of finishing, Maresca was still annoyed with the former PSV Eindhoven winger for conceding a foul on the stroke of half-time which allowed Wolves to score their second equaliser of a pulsating contest.

‘In the first 10 minutes he had two chances and overall he was very good,’ said Chelsea’s Italian manager.

‘The only thing I didn’t like from Noni is the free-kick he gave away before half-time and we can avoid that. especially against a team who are good from set-pieces.’

Maresca’s straight talking has not gone down well with everyone at Chelsea during his short time at the club, with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell having been left in no doubt as to their chances of winning back their firstteam places.

Madueke, however, is enjoying life under the man who masterminded Leicester’s promotion winning campaign last season.

‘It is obvious [ his approach],’ said Madueke. ‘Everyone saw what he did at Leicester last year, he is mad about the details.

‘Even in the first game against City there were some nice patterns of play but we just couldn’t finish it off. It is a great day today, I am happy he has got his first Premier League win for Chelsea and we go onto midweek in Geneva.’

Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and the returning Joao Felix also got on the scoresheet in what represented Chelsea’s first win at Wolves since 2019.

‘That is the intention but there are teams there that want the same so it’s not easy,’ said Maresca when asked if it was his intention to place the emphasis on attack every week.

‘In the first 10 minutes we created two or three chances and scored a goal and then we started to lose the ball, but overall a good performance.

‘Absolutely there always things we can improve on. We can learn many things.’
