New Delhi: The upcoming third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is set to kick off on December 14 at the iconic Gabba ground in Brisbane. As Team India gears up for the crucial match in hopes of reclaiming the lead in the series, a setback has emerged with star fast bowler Mohammed Shami's availability for the series hanging in the balance. Reports indicate that Shami, who is currently not fully fit, may not be able to participate in the Test series and has expressed reluctance to travel to Australia under these circumstances.
Mohammed Shami is not ready to go himself:
A PTI report states that Shami is still not fully fit. Shami was out for the last one year due to an ankle injury during the World Cup last year. After undergoing surgery for this, Shami underwent a long rehabilitation and has again had to deal with swelling in the knee. Although he made a comeback in the Ranji Trophy and then the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month and has been playing continuously since then, but his fitness is still in question.
In the report, citing sources, it has been told that Shami’s knee swelling is coming and going again and again. Now in such a situation, he has obviously not been able to get a fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy. In the report, the BCCI source has also claimed that Shami himself is not confident about his fitness and he is admitting that at present he will not be able to bear the burden of bowling continuously in Test cricket. In such a situation, Shami wants to spend more time in domestic cricket.
Now he will play in this tournament:
In such a situation, the chances of Shami going to Australia are almost over. After the Brisbane Test, only 2 matches will remain in the series and there is no possibility of Shami being fit for them either. 34-year-old veteran fast bowler Shami will now be seen playing for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Bengal Cricket Association has included him in the squad for the tournament. In the last one month, Shami has played 9 consecutive matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament after one match of the Ranji Trophy. During this, his performance was better but he was badly beaten against Baroda in the quarter-finals and the team was out of the tournament.
